Move up to a better html editor- Expression Web Version 2.

So you have used Notepad and Kompozer or NVu to create a webpage. Maybe you would still use Notepad for a quick and simple edit of an existing page.

But I think it's more productive to use a wysiwyg editor. You will learn a little html as you go along. You don't need to know all the tags. If you come across on you are unfamiliar with, just search Google and read about that tag and then just keep producing webpages.

Expression Web is Microsoft's html editor, taking the place of FrontPage that has been left behind.

If you  have used FrontPage you will see many familiar parts of Expression Web. But Expression has be updated and even will handle some php files, now.

It has many properties that can be set in toolbars that normally exist on both sides of the pane in which you do the editing. You can choose to block them from view if you find them distracting to begin with.

You can start by selecting File, New Page then CSS layouts. You will then have nine choices from which to choose a beginning layout. This can get you off to a fast start and have the css written so that you can just lay in a header image, Content text and maybe a navigation section in the small column. Here is a screen shot of that.

Expression Web has a built-in FTP program to upload your documents after you have created them.

A good procedure is to create the documents first on your computer and then upload them to your website. That way you have two copies so that if the Web server shouldn't lose data you have a backup on your computer.

If you used FrontPage in the past you remember that FrontPage had a Preview screen to see what the page would look like in a browser. With expression web  you actually choose to display the page in a browser not a preview pane.Microsoft has a free trial of expression Web that you can download. Or you can find it for sale on eBay.com for around seventy dollars.

Show you can work on your website on your computer making changes to as many pages as you wish. You can add pages and images, whatever. Then when you have things the way you want them choose to publish the entire website to your Web server and expression is smart enough to know which pages have been changed and which ones need to be re-uploaded.

If you can afford it, I recommend  that you start learning to create webpages with Expression Web. If you're on a budget then start with Kompozer or Nvu and then move up to Expression Web when you can afford it.
